Chill out in 2017: the eight best places to relax

When it comes to New Year’s resolutions, taking more time to relax is top of our list. And you don’t have to look far for the perfect place to chill out. Whether a short car journey away or in the comfort of your own home here are eight of the best ways to unwind.

1. Break a sweat

Ignore the old adage “don’t sweat it”. When it’s cold outside, a sauna session is just the job for upping your heart rate and boosting circulation without any physical exertion required. And you can look forward to a great night’s sleep afterwards too.

2. A hands on approach

Book a massage at a local spa for total body relaxation. Feel tension and stress melt away under the expert hands of a professional masseuse. It’s like the body’s reboot button!

3. Set adrift on memory bliss

When it comes to relaxation, floatation tanks are gaining in popularity. Just like the Dead Sea, salty water in individual pods allows you to bob away, feeling completely weightless with only your thoughts for company.

4. Climb every mountain

Many of us look to the mountains for peace and solitude. Offering one of nature’s most breathtaking landscapes, they’re the perfect place to escape the daily grind. Take a hike without bumping into anyone else for hours. Or climb up high and soak up the panoramic views unfolding below.

5. Beside the seaside

For others, waves lapping at the beach, the salty air and the call of seagulls are the epitome of relaxation. Simply sitting and watching the ocean soothes the soul, no matter what the weather. In the summer months, you can even take a dip to cool off or chill out on a lilo.

6. Home sweet home

There’s no need to leave home in the pursuit of relaxation. In winter you can curl up in bed or on the sofa with a book, or binge watch one of your favourite series. The best bit: there’s no need to change out of your PJs! And when spring rolls around head for your garden or balcony and enjoy the sunshine.

7. Get the swing of it

The best place to doze in summer has to be a hammock. Especially on a beach. But if you can’t wait for summer or your beach holiday, why not fit one on your balcony or in the garden ready for spring?

8. Tub time

Nothing beaks soaking in a hot bubble bath after a hard day. Chill out with a cup of coffee and your favourite book. Or up your game with a glass of wine and a laptop so you catch-up on your favourite series. This is the life!

There are so many ways to escape the everyday madness and relax. We hope our top eight has inspired you to take a step back and breathe. Here’s to a stress-free 2017!
